The exhibition unravels its numerous forms, demonstrating the sari to be a metaphor for the layered and complex definitions of India today. It brings together dozens of the finest saris of our time from designers, wearers and craftspeople in India.
Featuring around 60 groundbreaking saris from designers, wearers, and craftspeople, the exhibition introduced UK audiences to one of today’s most dynamic global fashion stories. It repositioned the sari from traditional settings into contemporary urban spaces, festivals, streets, and studios—highlighting its evolving cultural and political significance.
The concept of the dancing fabric showcased in the exhibition's entrance is creatively echoed through the title. Unique design elements, such as ombré printed on the wooden panels, create a mesmerising dye-like effect. Additionally, terracotta numbers, washi paper tapes, and intricately woven recycled paper used as labels seamlessly complement the exhibited objects and craftsmanship.
